Things You Didn’t Know About Being Psychic

By Mambo Shoshana | www.spiritualteachersvoodoo.com

Being a psychic medium isn’t a trend. It’s a spiritual responsibility.

When most people think of psychics, they imagine crystal balls, tarot cards, or dramatic visions of the future. But those of us who live this path know—it’s not all flashing lights and magical insight. Being a psychic is not a party trick. It’s a calling. And for many of us, it’s been a long, painful, and often isolating road to get here:

Being psychic is not a performance. It’s a soul contract.

In this blog, I’m going to share five truths about being psychic that most people don’t talk about—especially those still in the beginning stages of awakening, truths that might just shift the way you see spiritual workers forever.

1. We See Ghosts—Constantly

Let’s get this out of the way first: yes, most psychics see spirits. But not just the sweet, grandmotherly ones. We see the stuck, angry, confused ones too. Spirits reach out to us because they know we can hear them—even when we don’t want to. As a child, I couldn’t sleep with the lights off.

“I didn’t know the difference between a dream and a visitation. It wasn’t cool—it was terrifying.”

For many psychic children, spirits show up uninvited, especially before we’re trained to manage the boundaries. Until you learn to control your sight, you suffer from it.

That’s why training is not optional—it’s necessary for survival.

2. A Psychic Medium is Deeply Affected by Energy

People love to call psychics “sensitive”—but that doesn’t begin to describe what it’s like. Psychics don’t just sense energy—we absorb it. We feel what others don’t. We walk into a room and immediately know who’s been arguing, who’s depressed, and who’s hiding something behind a smile. And if we’re not properly grounded, it drains our body, mind, and spirit. It’s not a superpower—it’s exhausting.

“Being psychic isn’t a gift—it’s a state of constant exposure to energy most people can’t feel.”

Many of us suffer physically from the constant flood of energy. Headaches, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia—these are often signs of energetic overload. Without the right spiritual hygiene, the gift can become a burden.

3. No Room for Excuses

I tell my students all the time: if Spirit gives you a gift, it’s your responsibility to develop it. You can’t ignore it and expect peace. You can’t play with it part-time and expect clarity.

Being psychic requires discipline, boundaries, and spiritual training. Without it, gifts can turn chaotic, dangerous, or attract unwanted forces. You wouldn’t trust an untrained surgeon with a scalpel—why trust an untrained psychic with the invisible threads of Spirit?

4. Most of Psychic Mediums Come from Pain

Here’s the part that hits deep: most psychics come from painful beginnings. Abuse. Neglect. Abandonment. We were the quiet ones, the weird ones, the ones who felt too much, cried too easily, or kept secrets we didn’t understand.

“Our abilities were often born out of survival. We had to sense danger before it reached us.”

But trauma cracks things open. It forces the spirit to expand. Many of us developed psychic abilities not for fun, but for survival. We had to know what was coming next. We had to feel the danger in the room.

But those wounds don’t just disappear. If we don’t heal, our readings carry the echo of that pain. Our spiritual work becomes clouded. That’s why deep healing work isn’t optional—it’s part of becoming clear channels.

5. This Path is Forged in Fire

People think psychics are born with a gift and just “know things.” What they don’t see is the fire we walk through to get here. It’s forged through pain, practice, and spiritual fire. The isolation. The initiations. The years of silence and study. The courage it takes to trust Spirit over ego.

At Spiritual Teachers Voodoo, I work with students and spiritual apprentices who are finally ready to stop running from their gifts—and start walking in power. We don’t sugarcoat the process, and we don’t bypass the pain. This is real training for real work.

Psychics are not just people who “know things”—we are healers, warriors, survivors, and seers. We’ve walked through shadow so we can guide others toward the light.

“Real psychics have been cracked open by life—and chose to rebuild through Spirit.”

We don’t chase aesthetics. We cultivate authentic power.

That’s what we do here.
