Vodou Spiritism Helps People Live Empowered Lives

Vodou Spiritism is a nature-based tradition and spiritual practice that is designed to provide healing and empower people to live a happy life.

about Vodou Spiritism

What is voodoo Spiritism

Voodoo Spiritism helps people live empowered lives. Vodoo is a religion practiced in parts of the Caribbean, especially Haiti, and the southern US, combining elements of Roman Catholic ritual with traditional African magical rites. Combined with Spiritism, a nature-based tradition from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Voodoo Spiritism is taking on a new direction.

Voodoo Spiritism is a term emerging built by women Mambos and Priestesses initiated in the traditions. Our focus is to build bridges rather than burn them down. We believe each person has a viable and real spiritual link to their personal lineage. That lineage has a power that when tapped, creates a greater sense of direction.

Voodoo Spiritism focuses on helping people heal and live better lives. It differs from other traditions because it includes teaching from hermetic, and some Cabalistic practices, has an expanded education in Mediumship, includes practices from mystical teachings of old, and combines body awareness, health, and nutrition.

Voodoo Spiritism honors diversity, has a strict education pathway, values initiate honoring self and community, challenges ego, and helps people build a life of honor. We believe inequities are our personal responsibility to challenge and overcome. This is not a tradition of power, we are a tradition of healing and elevation of spirit and life path.

about Vodou Spiritism

History

Vodou - Voodoo

Vodou is a religion practiced in parts of the Caribbean, especially Haiti, and the southern US. It combines elements of Roman Catholic ritual with traditional African magic and religious rites,  characterized by sorcery and spirit possession.

Spiritism - Espiritismo

Spiritualism is a metaphysical belief that the world is made up of at least two fundamental substances, matter, and spirit.

Historical Traditions

Caribbean traditions are folkloric and complex systems differing in the regions they are from. Migration paths, political climates, and war have shaped the islands in both educational paths as well as spiritual paths. Each system of spiritual practice differs in etymology and the role these spiritual practices serve. All agree they are unified in
foundational services to a spiritual realm and practice initiatory rites and complex secrecy of each tradition.

Most are oral traditions handed down in apprenticeships from teacher to student depending on what the students need to know. A hierarchy exists in the temples known as spiritual houses. Some have actual
physical temples for people to commune within. Together they form one of the largest folkloric spiritual practices in the world as they are
in every land known under the southern equator. Today these practices are reaching the Western world and have made a migration into the West providing a recognizable and seismic influence in every continent worldwide.

As these traditions migrate, they too change and evolve with every community and political landscape. History is easy to research on the Caribbean diaspora. Research with discernment, as all traditions vary and most knowledge is best received directly from a Mambo or
Houngan, Madrina or Papa. It is important to note, that most people are on the outside looking in, reporting on their personal experiences as a study or research. To be in the heart of any Vodou society is a dedication of years. In other words, it is important to respect the years it takes in proper training to become a practitioner.

New Vodou Spiritism

new direction

Voodoo is taking a new direction. With the world climate now interfacing with diversity in divinity and culture. Our history of this mesmerizing and secreted tradition is now evolving to include more culture. Women are working together to safehouse the old ways that otherwise may become corrupted by the recent turn towards masculine leadership.

Believe it or not, we have always been a women-centered ceremonial art. Focusing on family, financial stability, home, and higher education. People come to seek help from voodoo practitioners worldwide now for guidance and support in their well-being and success. We acknowledge the healing arts of the old Vodou ways as a necessary cornerstone to the balance of living a modern healthy life.

Our traditions have had a seismic influence on the communities it reaches. Through “spiritual counseling,” guidance from higher forces known as the Lwa and the Mystery. Voodoo has a way of helping women make positive life choices. The tradition has entered the world stage and is known and accepted as a wealth of knowledge kept safely preserved throughout time.

Many people are seeking new ways to overcome the systemic sexism this tradition faces today to include our modern rights. Women are less likely to have time for self-care and often are diverted away from education and financial stability. As our family units change we enter a new evolution of what it means to have a successful life. We, as Priestesses know we are the ones to gather together forces to preserve our old teachings and embrace the next generations of spiritists. As this beautiful tradition migrates out of the Caribbean clement that is filled with inequities. Women leaders are on the rise using the untouchable power kept secret in the Vodou ways. We are seeing more interest in our teachings and the need to balance traditional values with this modern evolution.

Today there is a birthing of a new path in voodoo known as Voodoo Spiritism which contains the old ways and includes people from around our beautiful globe. Voodoo spiritism is a term emerging built by women Mambos and Priestesses initiated in the traditions. Our focus is to build bridges rather than burn them down. We believe each person has a viable and real spiritual link to their lineage. That lineage has a power that when tapped, creates a greater sense of direction.

“To know where you are going,
you must look to see where you have been.“

Too often today we build our lives around the Western criteria for success, therefore staving the other integral and vital parts of living a healthy life. Spiritual practice starts with first defining what this karma is and how to best clear the path going forward. Ancestral karma maneuvers around your choices, your past, and your future, leaving unresolved problems. Caribbean voodoo has a powerful and effective cure for clearing ancestral karma. In Haitian Vodou this ceremony can take a week to perform. In the Dominica Republic, this ceremony can take a weekend to perform. Both have a connection in structure and practices, both are valuable, and both are done well by skilled practitioners. These practitioners have overcome their karmic ties to those who are “Under the Water”

empowerment

Empowerment and stability

These terms and pathways for empowerment do not live in the Western curatives for emotional and financial stability. Women lead these ceremonies very well, however are given less respect due to the issues of sexism that have become normalized in all countries. Together we can see a new evolution of the powers provided by these traditions. We awaken the natural inclusion a Mambo has. Caring for our homes, clients, and communities has very little to do with postering for positions and bantering over regulations. Providing these healings takes being in the right frame of mind and honoring the diversity that is and was the source of a spiritual home.
Let us look forward to what the future is that we are creating.

Together we can all have a spiritual home that includes your path.
Our goal is to provide the very best outline of our traditional pathways. The reason for this is that there are two rivers.
Firstly: Becoming a Mambo or a Houngan takes time. It is not an easily attained position. Much like a doctor of oriental medicine or a Saint in the Catholic Church, there are tests, dedications, education, residencies, and apprentices. The apprenticing path is filled with
secrets. We will outline the pathways as much as possible without offending the secrecy we have vowed to uphold. The purpose of this is to have people better understand the value of these positions.
Secondly: We will attempt to outline some of the modern misconceptions to help people better respect the traditional positions. Too many people are being sold “initiations” as a
way for them to feel that they have attained some ownership over the teachings. This is wrong. There are levels to the “societies”. These levels provide people safety. The power to receive the positive influence from the society is contingent on these rules.
The purpose of this is to attempt to reduce the common mistakes new students make by providing a clear understanding of the rules of our society and spiritual houses.
